Dichroic glass is made in an airless vacuum chamber where quartz crystals and metal oxides are vaporized. Condensed vapor attaches and forms a crystal structure. Many layers are applied with the total coating being approximately 35 millionths of an inch thick and is similar to a gemstone. Dichroic glass has reflective and transmitted color.

Dichroic glass was created for the aerospace industry, but is now available to the general public. It is used by glass artists in many different applications. Due to the complexity of the manufacturing process, dichroic glass is very expensive.

The striking color, sparkle and fire of transmitted and reflective light combines to produce a unique, one of a kind piece.
